Golden Chariot »

A wooden chariot being made for the Uttara Kamakshi temple, at the SIES complex Nerul was dedicated to the temple by the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Sri Jayendra Saraswati on April 14, 2007.

The 16.5 ft. tall "Rath" was made by the National awardee and well known sculpture from Udipi in Mangalore Shilpi V. Laxmi Narayana Acharya. It is made out of special teak wood and is intricately carved with idols of various Gods and goddesses including Ganapathi and Kamakshi and it took six months to make. The temple has also ordered to make a special idol of Kamakshi to be used for adorning the chariot on special occasions and will be taken around the complex during Festivals. The chariot will be pulled by the devotees.

The chariot was covered with gold leaves over copper sheet fully fixed over the whole chariot. The Swarna Ratha Samarpanam was done at the holy hands of His Holiness Sri Bharati Teertha Mahaswamiji of Sringeri Sri Saradha Peetam on 29th September 2007.
